Dip stations and push-up bars
Dip stations and push-up bars support a range of bodyweight strength exercises. Dips primarily work the chest, shoulders and triceps. Push-up bars raise your hands above the floor and can allow a greater range of motion, depending on the design and your control.
These training aids can complement dumbbells, weight benches and strength stations in a home gym, personal-training studio or functional training space. Push-up bars are usually easy to store, while the space needed for a dip station varies by model.
What is a dip station?
A dip station has two parallel bars that support your body during exercises such as dips. It can be a single frame or a pair of separate bars. Check grip spacing, handle diameter, height, stability and maximum load. Choose an exercise depth you can control and use the equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Push-up bars and handles
Push-up bars let you hold handles instead of placing your palms flat on the floor. This can reduce wrist extension, although comfort depends on the user and handle design. Raised grips may allow you to lower your chest further than in a floor push-up, but a deeper movement is not necessary for every user. Use a range you can control and check that the bases grip the surface securely.
Bodyweight training at home
Choose equipment that fits your exercises and available space. Compare dimensions in use and in storage, grip surfaces and load limits. Leave room around the bars for the full movement and place them on a level, stable surface. For frequent use in a studio or gym, check that the model is rated for that setting. Dip stations and push-up bars can be used on their own or alongside other strength equipment.
