Cable attachments for strength training

Cable attachments add exercise options to compatible cable machines, functional trainers and multigyms. Lat bars, triceps ropes, single handles and rowing handles let you vary your grip for exercises targeting the back, arms, shoulders and core.

Choose attachments to suit your exercises and preferred hand position. A lat bar can be used for pulldowns, a triceps rope for pushdowns and a rowing handle for seated rows. Grip shape, dimensions and surface finish affect how each attachment feels in use.

What types of cable attachments are available?

Lat bars are designed for pulldowns and other compatible pulling exercises. Triceps ropes and bars can be used for pushdowns and extensions, depending on the machine setup. Single handles allow one-sided exercises, while rowing handles offer different grip options for seated rows. Check the intended use and available cable travel for each exercise.

Varying grip width and hand position

Different attachments let you change grip width and use overhand, underhand or neutral hand positions where the design allows. These changes affect movement range, comfort and how you perform an exercise. Muscle involvement also depends on elbow position, technique and the direction of pull, so grip width alone does not determine which part of the back you train. Choose a grip that lets you move under control.

Compatibility with cable machines and multigyms

Many attachments connect to the cable using a carabiner. Check that the attachment eye and connector fit, that the connector closes fully and that the machine permits the accessory. Compare load limits and allow enough clearance for the attachment and movement. A similar connection does not guarantee compatibility, and carabiners are included only when stated.

For home gyms and professional use

A selection of complementary attachments helps you vary cable exercises without adding another machine. Compare grip comfort, surface finish, dimensions and rated load. For frequent gym use, check durability, cleaning instructions and suitability for the intended use. Inspect ropes, grips and connection points regularly and replace damaged attachments according to the manufacturer’s guidance.
