Speciality weights for strength training
Speciality weights bring different challenges to strength, functional and conditioning workouts. Explore clubbells, wearable weights, lifting chains and training sledgehammers for exercises involving strength, stability, grip and explosive movements.
Which speciality weights are available?
These tools offer alternatives to conventional dumbbells, kettlebells and barbells. Each has its own purpose: clubbells combine strength with rotation and control, wearable weights add load to selected movements, lifting chains vary the suspended load and sledgehammers are designed for striking exercises on an appropriate target.
Clubbells for strength, grip and movement control
A clubbell is elongated, with much of its weight towards the far end. This creates different leverage from a dumbbell or kettlebell. Swings, rotations and circular movements challenge the shoulders, arms, trunk and grip. Explore our clubbells and choose a weight suited to your experience and intended exercises.
Wearable weights for extra resistance
A weighted vest, wrist weight or ankle weight adds load without holding a weight in your hands. The suitable activity depends on the type: a vest may suit walking or selected bodyweight exercises, while wrist and ankle weights should be matched to controlled movements and the product’s instructions. Start light and retain good posture and movement control. Explore our wearable weights.
How do lifting chains work?
With a suitable setup, lifting chains provide variable resistance in exercises such as squats, bench presses and deadlifts. As more links lift off the floor, the suspended load increases; as they return to the floor, it decreases. The chain’s total mass does not change. The effect depends on chain length, attachment height and movement range. Explore our lifting chains.
Training with a sledgehammer
A training sledgehammer is typically used to strike a suitable tyre or purpose-built impact target. These movements involve the shoulders, arms and trunk and can provide a conditioning challenge. Choose a manageable weight and check that the hammer and target are intended for the exercise. Allow for rebound and keep the swing area clear. Explore our training sledgehammers.
Which weight suits your training?
Choose a clubbell for rotational movements, grip and control. Select wearable weights according to the exercise and where the load is carried. Lifting chains suit experienced lifters who want variable resistance and can set them up correctly. A sledgehammer suits striking-based strength and conditioning when an appropriate target and enough space are available.
Start with a manageable load
Shape, leverage and placement can make a speciality weight feel very different from a dumbbell of the same mass. Start with a load you can control throughout the movement. For swings and strikes, allow ample clearance and use a stable training area. Check attachments and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before use.
